Natural Gas: The Fuel of the Future?

In a time where everyone is concerned if they will be able to afford to fill up their gas tank there has become a huge hype for natural gas as the new fuel. With gas prices consistently over $4 a gallon and the threat that it could easily reach over $5 any day soon many people are seeking some kind of relief. Many people have found that there are some great old cars like the Geo Metro that can get over 40 mpg and are dirt cheap if you can find one that is still running. Others are investing in hybrid cars in the hopes that the higher mpg will save them a few bucks in the end. As much as higher mpg is nice it doesn’t fix the issue that they are still dependent on gas.

Many people are now looking to alternative fuels as a solution to the rise in oil prices. One of the biggest contenders in the race of alternative fuels is natural gas. It can be delivered and used either as a gas or as a liquid; you may have seen CNG (compressed natural gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) for vehicles already. It works similarly to the fuel we’re used to; it’s generally pushed into an internal combustion engine to provide energy.

What are the advantages to Natural Gas as an Alternative Fuel?

One of the great advantages to it is that it’s a fuel we are already used to. Many of us already use it in our homes for heating and cooking. Part of the infrastructure is already in place to process and distribute it. The technology already exists to utilize it in a multitude of different applications, from heating and cooking, to powering your car engine. It has the potential to produce fewer emissions than conventional gasoline. But the biggest advantage that most people see is that it’s easily half the price per gallon of conventional gasoline or diesel (at least at the moment).

So What Are the Disadvantages to Natural Gas?

On its own it is not a renewable resource. Although it can be man-made and produced, known as biogas, it generally requires large amounts of biomass and extensive processing to make it high quality enough to be used as a fuel for vehicles. To meet the needs of today large amounts of natural gas have to be drilled up from underground resources. Just like oil, natural gas resources are limited. If the United States continues drilling it up at the current rate there is only about 40 years worth in America’s largest resource, underground shale deposits. That is assuming drilling is going to stay at the current rate. There are already plans to increase the drilling for shale gas to meet the increasing need. If we were to double the mining efforts that means there is only 20 years worth in the ground!

Without a huge push for the production of biogas with an improvement in technology to make it practical we may run out of domestic natural gas if something doesn’t change. Natural gas definitely has advantages, but at the moment, the disadvantages seem to outweigh the benefits until renewable biogas technology can catch up with demand.

Environmental Drilling in Oil and Gas Projects

We all know that a drill is a tool that bores holes. In petroleum drilling, it has a long and sharp metal piece positioned at the base. It is employed in those drilling sites where boring of inflexible substances including wood, metal, sandstone and rock is required.

Environmental drilling is one of the most vital industries where a special drill is utilized for carrying out the drilling process effectively. Not many people know the concept of environment drilling. This name is known to those people who work in soil boring industry. The recognition of this procedure extends to individuals who are in excavating and monitoring water wells. Let’s learn a bit about environmental drilling.

Monitoring and drilling water wells

A water well is one of the most important structures involved in the digging, drilling and boring processes. It is important in the oil and gas industry. People can have an access to underground water after the digging process is completed successfully.

Water is taken out from the well with the help of different pumps such as hand pumps, vertical turbine pumps, and electrical submersible and mechanical pumps. Apart from these, water can also be drawn manually from water wells.

Environmental drilling makes it probable to increase the volume of water. It helps in raising the water quality as well. Water wells include more mineral deposits than surface water, so water treatment is necessary in this process.

In order to remove manganese, iron and arsenic from water, water softening treatments are employed. These wells can also be drilled by hand drilling or manual techniques such as hand percussion, jetting, augering and sludging. Machine drilling using down-the-hole, rotary and percussion is used to drill wells.

Drilling is very important for drawing more water from the well as the progression can extend deeper into digging down the surface. The good part is that you can drill 100 meters more with manual drilling then other drilling techniques.

Electric pumps are one of the most accepted machines used for environmental drilling of wells. They are used worldwide- especially in rural areas. Different styles are also employed in well digging such as table and top-head rotary.

Drilling machines with cables can also be used to get the desired result. A shallow drilling machine is placed on the top of trailers and trucks. Water well can go as deep as three thousand feet below the surface of earth. Environmental drilling keeps the environment cleaner and safer for mankind and animals.

World Oil Production by Country World’s Oil Reserves

This report is going to depict World Oil Production by Country. We will also go over some brief statistics about what we know to exist in the World Oil Reserves. We all know that as it is today, when it comes to oil, once it’s gone its gone, so knowing how much is currently needed to maintain our level of existence is pretty important right?

The world is a vast place that is rich with all sorts of different minerals and ores that mankind has exploited over its time here to enhance our quality of living and survival rate. It is only natural that we would eventually consume all there is here on Earth and eventually push into space in search of more precious materials on other planets and the like. However we are not quite there yet, so while we wait for those glorious days to come, let’s really look at what we are currently producing as a people when it comes to Oil Power Generation!

World Oil Production by Country

Breaking it down on a country by country basis would take too long because of how many countries we have here on Earth, so for this report we are going to cover the top 5 countries in the world and how much oil they are producing. We will also briefly get into the World Oil Reserves and how much is estimated to be left!

Saudi Arabia #1

Number 1 on our list of World Oil Production by Country and the top Oil Power Generation nation is the country of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Arabian people produce an estimated 9.76 million barrels a day or about 3.5 trillion barrels of oil each and every year; that is if they pumped 9.76 million barrels each and every day for a year; which they currently do not. Compared to the World Oil Reserves, the Saudi Arabian total oil reserve is estimated to be about 259.9 billion barrels or 19.20%.

Canada #2

Number 2 on our list is Canada. Canada has actually recently discovered deposits of oil in sands, but for this report we are going to stick to straight up oil production and reserves. The Canadian people produce about 3.29 million barrels a day or just over 1.2 trillion barrels a year, if they were to continue pumping at the same rate every single day for a year. Canada has the second largest oil reserve stockpile in the world coming in at 175.2 billion barrels or 12.94%. (Not including new discoveries)

Iran #3

Number 3 on our list of World Oil Production by Country is Iran. Iran has an Oil Power Generation rate of about 4.18 million barrels of oil each day; which works out to be just about 1.5 trillion barrels each year should they pump 4.18 million barrels every day consecutively. The Iranian people have a total of 137.6 billion barrels of oil in their soil or 10.16% of the world’s total reserves.

Iraq #4

Number 4 on our list is the country of Iraq. Iraq produces an estimated 2.4 million barrels of oil each day; which would work out to be just about 875 billion barrels each year if they pumped 2.5 million barrels every single day. Coming in at about 8.5% of the World Oil Reserves, the Iraqi oil reserves is an estimated 115 billion barrels of oil located under their soil.

Kuwait #5

The country of Kuwait comes in fifth on our list, with an Oil Power Generation rate of just about 2.5 million barrels a day. If they were to continually pump 2.5 million a day, every day for a year that would be just over 900 billion barrels a year. Held within the soil of Kuwait is an estimated 101.5 billion barrels of oil or 7.5% of the world’s total reserves..

World Oil Production by Country In Closing

The World Oil Reserves have never been so vast and yet they have also never been so scarce. As the World Oil Production by Country levels increase and more nations come to depend on Oil Power Generation to keep them comfortable we are faced with the greatest challenge to face mankind yet.

New and sustainable energy resources are being discovered, researched, tested and tested again as I type this; however all things are pointing to a continued reliance on oil as our primary source of energy generation for some time to come.

Imagine a world where all the oil is gone and then imagine a world that is no longer stable because that’s what would happen if an alternative means of generating energy isn’t found before we run out of this ever so precious natural resource. Scary to think about, but is it realistic to prepare for right?

Different Energy Options – Alternative Energy Sources List

Our existence is a pretty deal in a pretty big place and being such, there are a whole variety of Different Energy Options that we can pursue as a species. When it comes to energy there isn’t really a right way or a wrong way, but rather a whole bunch of different ways. We have compiled a detailed Alternative Energy Sources List for our readers to get a better understanding of all the different types of power generation options currently available to us.

Some of these alternative energy sources you will have already heard about and others will knock your socks off. For instance, you know full well about oil and how we get power from that, but did you know that we can actually get energy from the sun, algae, hydrogen, physical power and more?

Alternative Energy Sources List

In no specific order, lest go over the current options that we could pursue in our search for Alternative Energy to replace or supplement oil as our primary source of energy. Starting with the one we all know:

Oil Power Generation

Oil is a fossil fuel that exists naturally within the Earth itself. From oil being found in underground pools to micro fragments being stuck in rock and sand; Oil Power Generation has got man from the dawn of the 20th century and likely will continue to leap us through the 21st!

Coal Power Production

Coal Power Production is the next of the Different Energy Options we are going to cover and it is a commonly known source of power generation; however due to a universally painted negative image of coal mining, many are very reluctant to continue the mining of coal. Coal mines of the past used to create considerable environmental damage and once the mining had been completed the landscape mined would forever be “altered”. With new and cutting edge clean coal technology however, that image of dirty coal may soon be a thing of the past.

Hydroelectric Power Production

This is a neat one for our Alternative Energy Sources List and it is what the name implies – Hydroelectric Power Production. Imagine being able to get the vast majority of our power requirements from good old fashion water! Well, it is possible and scientists are hard at work to develop a realistic and sustainable way of harnessing natural energy from the manipulation and movement of water. Sounds futuristic I know, but just wait because the future is going to be really futuristic!

Algae Power Generation

Now out of all the Different Energy Options this one seems to be President Obama’s pet project many would say. Did you know that it is actually possible to harness the natural cycle of photosynthesis and turn it into energy that we can use? Really we can do this right now. The problem with Algae Power Generation though is the amount of land required to create “algae farms” large enough to impact our oil imports and additionally there are problems with the refinement process and long term effects farming it on massive scales may have on the environment as a whole.

Hydrogen Power Generation

To the moon and back Newt Gingrich would say! Out of all the Different Energy Options Hydrogen is the most abundant resource in the known universe. That’s right, should man ever travel the stars one day it is very possible that the fuel we use to power our space engines will in fact be derived from Hydrogen Power Generation. From moons to asteroids and from planets to comets; Hydrogen can be found nearly anywhere in the universe in great and vast quantities. The problem lies with the refining of it. We can refine the stuff, the problem is refining it fiscally, but when we figure out an economically sound way of introducing hydrogen fuel to the masses it is gonna get real spacey around here!

Fusion Power Generation

Fusion Power Generation is a good one, but it is also one of the more dangerous on our Alternative Energy Sources List. Vast amounts of energy can be harnessed through the fusion process; however there are great risks involved with the actual production of said energy. Fusion works by taking two particles and making both of them go as fast as possible in opposite directions and then at peek velocity; smashing them into one another. It is this collision that creates a type of energy that we could then harness for our power need, but with that energy it also provides great risk of a containment breach. Once man masters fusion who knows, maybe Hydrogen will be a thing of the past.

Human Power Production

Now this is one of the Different Energy Options that bugs us a little only because we should already have this type of energy generation vastly available in our world today and we do not. Physical power is really no different than any other power and it can be harnessed to power just about anything. The more one “moves” the more Human Power Production can potentially be generated and harnessed. Talk about the ultimate sustainable energy source, us!

Natural Gas Energy Production

Natural Gas Energy Production is a good one for our Alternative Energy Sources List and it is actually being used today on large scales. A considerable amount of the United States runs off of natural gas power and tomorrow even more may. Natural gas is actually a pretty safe and secure way of generating power, the risk comes into play in its susceptibility to accidents. Natural Gas is flammable of course, but because the gas is stored and sent through pipes underground, if an explosion where to occur in any residential or commercial building, there is a potential of knocking out or blowing up and entire block or more should an accident occur. With such high risk only time will tell how we tackle that problem!

Solar Energy Generation

Solar Energy Generation is derived from harnessing the suns natural rays and converting them into usable electricity. Powering things through solar power is actually really feasible; however as with any of the Different Energy Options there are problems. The most significant issue with solar power is that we simply could not power any considerable application for any measurable duration. Meaning that when we transfer the power we gather from the sun allot of it escapes and is lost. With such a high rate of lost energy one really needs to ask themselves is solar power really an option for the masses?

Geothermal Energy Production

Good old Geothermal Energy Production is a beast of power generators. Imagine taking a huge plug and sticking it right into the Earth like on the commercials. Well that’s geothermal energy and it is not only feasible, we are using it right this very second. The biggest problem with this type of energy is the potential problems it may lead to when applied for an extended duration. Sucking power directly from Earth’s core may seem like a good idea at first, but who is to say what that will do to the core of our planet and even more the rotation of our fair planet. This option on our Alternative Energy Sources List needs further analysis, but initially the power output is great with an unknown long-term risk for the masses.

Nuclear Power Production

Nuclear Power Production is awesome in its ability to provide massive amounts of energy for the masses. Unlike the rest of the Different Energy Options the problem with nuclear is clear and that is a potential meltdown. Many power plants, should a meltdown occur, have the damaging capability of destroying a some 100 mile radius and killing everything in its path. With nuclear the power is limitless; however so is the destructive power than comes with it.

Wind Power Generation

Wind Power Generation is really neat, but not really realistic for the masses. Given the correct setup a considerable amount of energy can be derived from harnessing power from the wind, however not enough to meet any average size community’s power needs. Wind power is a more local power generation option than one for the masses.

Biomass Energy Generation

Biomass Energy Generation is one of the Different Energy Options that always makes me twitch. This type of energy from our Alternative Energy Sources List comes directly from the remains of organic life and yes that means both you and me. Organic life would actually make really good batteries, however there is a certain moral consideration to biomass energy. When talking about plants and bacteria the moral thought is minimal, but who knows where this would lead should we fully invest in biomass. Would some questionable nations actually use their own people to meet their power requirements like Yuri in the video game Red Alert 2? This option is an interesting one and basically defines the generation of power through algae.

Tidal Power Production

Here is a wave, there is a wave; one would think with so many waves cycling through our oceans that Tidal Power Production would be obvious. Now while it is and actually provides some serious energy, what would happen to our natural ocean life should we start actually changing the flow of our oceans? Imagine it no longer being warm in the Bahamas all because we started altering the natural tides of our planet, or worse off, what would tidal manipulation do to our moon?

Gravity Power Generation

Gravity Power Generation is a really really interesting concept that we have not heard enough about like the other Different Energy Options. Imagine being able to meet any and every power requirement by simply utilizing gravity. You throw something up in the air and when it comes back down it is fully charged and ready to go! We are not sure what the current standings are with Gravity energy, but as we look into it and learn more you can rest assured we will bring it to you and the rest of our readers.

Different Energy Options Alternative Energy Sources List In Review

Now that is a lot of information to take in from one Alternative Energy Sources List! These are only the Different Energy Options that we gathered in a rather short amount of research. We can only imagine what scientists are really trying to do behind closed doors and what they are tinkering with in hopes of making power a much less problem in the future.

From Oil Power Generation to Coal Power Production, from Solar Energy Generation to Nuclear Power Production, from Biomass Energy Generation to Gravity Power Generation; who knows where man will get its power from in the future. One thing is for sure though and that is oil is going to run out eventually and we need to get on this and get on it NOW! Wouldn’t you agree?

Learning More About Green Energy

The term “going green” often inspires many questions among people; some do not know what the phrase means and others are unsure of how to go about living a greener lifestyle. This article will provide you with more information about green energy and what going green looks like in many places around the world.

Individuals who decide to implement changes in their lifestyle that positively impact the environment are choosing to go green.
