Future of Solar Energy – We Live at the Expense of the Future Generations
The complete amount of sun energy that is cast over the Earth surface in a week exceeds energy of all world supplies of oil, gas, coal and uranium. And as we can see in Russia the sun energy has the most theoretical potential, more than 2000 milliard of tons of conventional fuel. In spite of such a large potential in the new power program of Russia the deposit of renewable energy sources is certainly in a very small volume – 15-19 millions of tons.
There is the wide-spread opinion that sun energy is exotic and its practical use is a business model of the remote future (after year 2020). We want to show that it is not so and that sun energy is a serious alternative to traditional energy even at the present moment.
Before we compare different power technologies according to economic and other parameters, it is necessary to define their actual cost, as Russian market prices of fuel and energy in the last 70 years did not reflect the real expenses on their production. Economic stimuli will operate only at the normal pricing, energy saving concerns and creation of new technologies in energy research.
We want to pay attention to the world prices, although nowadays in any country of the world substantial part of value of production of energy is not reflected in tariffs on energy, but distributed on the expenses of the society.
It is known that every year the amount of oil consumed in the world equals the amount produced in the nature in 2 millions or years. Giant rates of consumption of nonrenewable energy sources at the prices that are considerably lower than they should be mean that we live in a debt, live at the expense of our future generations.
Thermal power stations release harmful carbon dioxide, which is accountable for a change of climate and, for example, results in a drought in the districts of production of corn and potato. Other harmful substances include oxides grey nitrogen, which in an atmosphere transforms in sulfur and nitric acids and return on earth with snow or as acid rains.
Acidity of water results in the decline of fertility of soil, diminishing of supplies of fishes and drying up of the forests, damage of buildings. Toxic heavy metals, such as a cadmium, lead, can dissolve acids and to get in a drinking-water and agricultural products. Thus we should pay more and more attention to alternative sources of energy and electricity production, such as solar power.
