How to Recycle Your Used Cell Phone

As the environment continues to take a beating with the filling up of landfills, and big business dumping harmful chemicals into the air and water, finding ways to get rid of old cell phones is of big importance.

Recent estimates put the total number of cellular devices in use around the world at around 3 billion. That is half of the world’s population. And this number is estimated to grow exponentially as the years go on. As more and more cell phone manufacturers continue to create new models each year, people are upgrading their devices to newer ones on a yearly basis.

This means that there are going to be 3 billion used cell phones on the Earth within the next few years. What do you do with all of those phones? One of the big movements has been to begin cell phone recycling.

What Is Cell Phone Recycling?

When you talk about recycling cell phones you are actually speaking about moving them around from the previous owner to another owner. This is an effort in helping to keep the sales of new cell phones down while keeping old cell phones out of the landfills.

Throwing Cell Phones Away

When a person goes out to buy a new wireless device they have a little problem with what to do with the old one. They do not need to use it anymore, so there is no sense in keeping them around the house. Some people will elect to give the old phone as a “toy” to their young children, but they will soon find themselves hanging around the house when the child figures out they can not make phone calls with it. What ultimately happens is the phone finds its way into the garbage.

How To Recycle Cell Phones

There are two ways you can recycle your used cell phone. The first way is to simply give it away to someone who needs it. This could be in the form of a relative, or family member, that has been wanting a phone, but can not afford to buy one. Once they have the phone, they just need to activate it through a wireless carrier.

Another way, that is gaining widespread exposure in the world today is through selling your old cell phones and to a cell phone recycling company. This works on the principle of buying old phones and then either reselling the phone or dismantling it for other recyclable parts.

Many people are opting for this type of cell phone recycling as they not only get rid of the old cell phone, but they also receive a small amount of money according to the type of phone they have.
