Solar Power and You
Addendum’s are being set all over the country to convert to clean renewable power sources. Governors and voters alike are pushing for at least 20% of all power to be converted by 2020. Solar power production is at the top of the list. At least 20 states so far have joined the bandwagon for the conversion away from fossil fuel, which when burned causes greenhouse gases which are the main causes of global warming. This comes at the right time, as the costs of producing energy are skyrocketing. Solar power could be a solution for the average homeowner. Climate change is becoming an increasingly more important issue every day and every one of us has to do our part to curb this continuously growing problem.
The production of renewable energy for the average homeowner is most definitely a reality in today’s world. The cost of installing solar panels can be subsidized by the government in the form of tax credits and incentives to reduce the cost by as much as 50%. Producing your own electricity also offers you the opportunity to store excess electricity and even sell it back to the power company for a profit. This is done through the use of Feed-in-tariffs.
There is a new breakthrough in solar technology that can reduce the ROI (return on investment) from 10 to 20 years to as little as 3-5 years. This makes converting to the use of solar energy much more realistic. There are even companies that will rent solar panels to homeowners to make the cost more affordable. We also have the option to make our own solar panels at home.
While the developing third world fights for the available fossil fuels, there is increased pressure on the rest of the world to come up with a better alternative. That alternative is the use of solar power. We can all do our share; it just takes a little guts to take the first step.
